Part 1: Small Bodies: Complete the 4 part handout on "comets, asteroids, meteors, and regions such as the Asteroid Belt and Kuiper Belt/Oort Cloud." To complete both sides of the handout, read the Holt Text pages 471-474 and watch both Brain Pop videos:"Asteroids" and "Comets" as primary resources.
Part 2: The Moon. View "Bill Nye: The Moon" video and complete the video worksheet. To access the video, log on to Safari Montage at safari.sandi.net using your student credentials. Search "Bill Nye - the Moon" in the search bar on safari montage and play it. Headphones are available to borrow.
Part 3: They say that if you were born on a Full Moon you will be rich and successful one day! Just kidding...For this activity I want you to identify the phases of the moon when you were born by visiting the Old Farmers Almanac for Kids and completing the "Birth Moon" activity. On the website, scroll to the bottom to change the date to match your birthday month. Use the Almanac's information to complete the activity.
Part 4: Lastly, complete the "phases of the moon" half sheet by answering the questions, shading in the Moon's reflection as viewed from you on Earth during each of the 8 phases, and adding correct labels to each phase....... using combinations of words like Waxing, Waning, Full, Half, Quarter, Cresent, New, Gibbous, etc....
